Do you love movies but want to be challenged by the kinds of independent and foreign films that are outside the mainstream? Rather than focusing on the latest movie releases, Dr. Michael DiGennaro carefully chooses independent films that you probably haven’t seen. He introduces the director and film prior to the screening, and then follows with a lecture and discussion that goes beyond plot to focus on cultural context, narrative themes and cinematic technique. The same film is shown on alternate Monday evenings and Wednesday afternoons, so if you can’t make it one week you’ll have a second opportunity. Films shown last semester include Little Men, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk (directed by Ang Lee), Birth of a Nation, Julietta (directed By Pedro Almodovar) , and Paterson (directed by Jim Jarmush).
Michael DiGennaro, PhD, is a former Mamaroneck High School English teacher and a film scholar and instructor.
