Copperclay and Enameled Jewelry MakingSusie DeRafelo & Nicole Zahour
Design and create beautiful handcrafted pieces in this combination Copperclay and enameled jewelry making class. We'll work with copperclay in the first three sessions and enameled jewelry, which you will meld onto the copper pieces using a small jeweler's kiln, in the last three. Copperclay is a new form of metal clay that can be sculpted, stamped or you can replicate the work of ancient copper casting. It will be fired in a kiln to hard copper and then is suitable for enameling. Enameled jewelry is a fusion of powdered glass to metals, and techniques such as cloisonne, scraffitto and enamel "paint" will be covered. No prior jewelry making experience is necessary. You will create several wearable pieces by the end of the course. Susie De Rafelo is one of a small group of teachers nationally who is experienced with copperclay. Jewelry designer Nicole Zahour studied Art Education and Art Therapy and has been enameling for several years. A materials fee of $80 is in addition to the class fee.
